China during Mao at Field Museum
She is a great writer and worth seeing.
An Evening with Anchee Min
Discover the compelling life story of best-selling author Anchee Min. Born in Communist China under Chairman Mao’s regime, at 17 she was forced into the leech-infested fields of a labor camp.
In 1976, Min was spotted while working in a field and was chosen to star in Madame Mao’s carefully orchestrated propaganda films. With the ensuing death of Chairman Mao and Madame Mao's fall from grace, Min was shunned before her first film was ever produced. She moved to the United States, learned English from Sesame Street, and within ten years had published her best-selling memoir, Red Azalea, as well as three other novels.
