Albany Park Day Laborers Respond to their Exclusion from Elections and Announce their New Initiative for Creating Workers’ Centers
When: Wednesday, March 24th at 11 a.m.
Where: Corner of Pulaski and Argyle
Day laborers and the Latino Union of Chicago, will hold a press conference and rally on Wednesday, March 24th at 11 a.m. at the corner of Pulaski and Argyle. They will discuss the unfair exclusion of immigrants in the democratic process and highlight alternative ways Chicago’s immigrant community can make elected officials accountable to them. They will also announce their new initiative for creating Workers’ Centers in Chicago.
“Elections are a time of renewal and change. We call upon government officials to renew their commitment to immigrant workers in Chicago and adjust policies and create initiatives that include corner day laborers,” states newly appointed Executive Director, Jessica Aranda. “Corner day laborers are forced to stand outside while waiting for jobs. They are excluded from obtaining decent work and livable wages. They will not be excluded from political affairs as well. We are here and will remain here to make their issues known.”
