CROSS THE PICKET LINE AND SHOP AT TREASURE ISLAND
If you're like me you're hesitant to cross a picket line, however, regarding the " strike" at Treasure Island (grocery stores), you just might want to do just that....here's why
Gourmet Liberal’s Dilemma
Man, what’s up with Treasure Island. It’s my favorite grocery store….everything on sale is tasty and good, and the other day, I went to the one on Wells in Old Town, and there were two guys with picket signs in front asking people to not shop there. I asked them what was up and they said that the management was cutting health insurance for the worker, making it too expensive for them, etc.
I went in and EVERYONE I talked to there (ALL the employees, the management, etc.) said that that union DIDN’T represent them, that in fact they voted it down, that THEY didn’t want a strike, and that in fact what this union was proposing would ELEMINATE health insurance for the part-time workers.
I like that store. Not just the food, but employees. They hire minorities, folk from Caprini Green, etc. (and evidently give them health insurance)…everyone very cool and very happy to be working there.
I’m concerned because there were much less people shopping there….no doubt knee-jerk liberal types like myself…..and the clear impression I got was that those guys in front were the bad-guys, that they didn’t represent the workers, and, in fact, were holding this store up for black-mail, and that the employees there definitely DIDN’T want them there!
Plus the employees were afraid that, due to the lack of business, they might lose their jobs.
That store is getting screwed by a union that they don't even want and in fact voted down.
