Chicago Ward Votes Troops Home
CHICAGO (AP) The people of Chicago's 48th Ward want the troops to come home from Iraq.
The voters of the North Side district voted in a non-binding referendum that the U.S. government should relinquish control in Iraq. The margin was 77 percent to 23 percent, with 66 percent of the precincts counted.
City-wide voters also agreed by five-to-one ratio that people who make more than $250,000 a year should pay more taxes. The money would go toward education funding and tax relief for property owners.
Voters in the 35th Ward voted two-to-one that aldermen should support the "Clean Indoor Air Ordinance." That would prohibit smoking in all enclosed public places in the city.
