In solidarity with the demonstration and march being planned for March 20 the Education Not Empire (March 4) coalition is calling for a student and youth convergence and feeder march beginning at 10am on the corner of Halstead and Roosevelt. At approximately 10:36am we will be joined by other feeder marches coming from the southside and Pilsen area and then continue on together as one massive student and youth contingent towards the March 20 rally site at Michigan and Pearson.
We’ll have a short rally at Halstead and Roosevelt while we wait for the other feeder marches to arrive so bring buckets, drums, signs, banners, puppets, water, snacks, other essentials, and your energy and enthusiasm and join together with other students and youth as we Walk Against War!
Halstead and Roosevelt is a high visibility location in terms of vehicular traffic, is the location of UIC’s ROTC training program and the gateway to University Village where what was once a historic, flourishing and ethnically diverse community known as Maxwell St. has been gentrified to make room for overpriced condominiums, overpriced and culturally bland dining, Starbucks coffee shops, Barbara’s Bookstores, etc.
