We are saddened to report that local peace activist Ada Allen Scott -- the wife and companion of "The Button Man", Clarence 'Scotty' Scott -- was murdered on March 6. She was 47 years old. See below for more info on her wake this Sunday and funeral this Monday -- and about the life of this good woman and her companion Scotty, the "Button Man". Scotty needs our support in the wake of this terrible tragedy. Please come if you can.
About Ada (via Bill):
Ada Pearl Allen Scott traveled to several anitwar demonstrations on buses arranged by the Chicago Coalition Against War & Racism, ANSWER and the IAC. She and her husband and companion Clarence "Scotty" Scott were part of the movement against war and racism and for the right of all to a decent living standard here at home.
To those who knew this vibrant, intelligent and gracious person, it is numbing to think that she was cruelly murdered. To Clarence, it is the worst of tragedies. Clarence is a blues artist and singer and to those that have heard him perform or listened to his CDs he is truly talented.
Clarence cannot make a living with his music alone, and to help ends meet he sells buttons at demonstrations. They are political buttons and they give support to progressive struggles. Clarence is not a mere button seller, he is also an activist and his buttons give support to the struggles -- whether they be to Free Mumia, to End the War in Iraq, to Stop Police Brutality, etc.
Clarence is ubiquitos -- he's gone everywhere with his buttons, which is how he picked up his nickname "The Button Man". And Ada was always with him, both as a companion and activist but also as a caregiver. Clarence's health is not great and Ada always took care of him. Now Ada is gone and a void is left...
For those who would like to attend Ada's wake, it will be held this Sunday, March 14 between 4 pm and 10 pm at Gatlings Chapel, 10122 S. Halsted Street(at 90th St.) in Chicago.
There will be visitation from 10am to 11am on Monday Mar. 15th at Holy Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 5854 S. Morgan(at 59th St.) in Chicago.
The Funeral will also take place on Mon. Mar. 15th at the Holy Rock Missionary Baptist Church at 5854 S. Morgan, at 59th Street, Chicago at 11 am. The phone #of the Church is 773-776-8112.
Due to the circumstances of Ada's death, the insurance will be held up for a couple of weeks and Clarence is kind of strapped for the expenses for the funeral costs. Therefore, he requests that no flowers be sent but that instead those that would like to help can send money orders for whatever you might afford. They should be made out to Clarence Scott and mailed to him at 6846 S. Harper Avenue, 2nd Floor, Chicago Il 60637.
