Eighteen popular Chicago area bands are playing benefit concerts from
February 26 through March 14 at six different venues around Chicago to
help raise awareness-and a little cash-for Democratic Candidate Dennis
Kucinich's bid for Presidency.
The series opened Thursday Feb 26 at 9 PM at Gunther Murphy's, 1638
West Belmont, with Jaik Willis, The Amoreys, and MiLKBaby.
Saturday night Feb. 28, Dennis Kucinich rock fans moved on to Lee's
Unleaded Blues, 7401 S. South Chicago to hear Johnny Drummer, Larry
Taylor and Barrelhouse Bonni. Next up is Regina Rodriguez, Tisa and
Greg, and Adam Brockman at the Heartland Cafe, 7000 N. Glenwood,
Thursday, March 4, 9 pm, donations, 773 465-8005.
Musician Jaik Willis speaks boldly about why he volunteers for
Kucinich,
"Because I feel like it is my duty. Dennis is the antithesis of GW
Bush. You don't vote in a primary like this for someone simply
because
they are ahead. Dennis represents the ideal on issues like the war,
health care and corporate influence on politics. He opposed the war
from
the start and demonstrates to the nations of the world that the United
States is not the rabid dog that Bush has been trying to scare us into
being. We are not slaves of fear and Republican media terror.
Your vote
for Dennis Kucinich will send a strong message to Washington, just as
long as Diebold isn't counting."
Rich Capalbo of The Amoreys said his group's endorsement was "propelled
by layoffs, downturns and the various slings and arrows of outrageous
fortune that afflict many Americans." The Amoreys, he adds,
"Exist to
welcome in abundance, dispel fear, massage sweet balm in your brain
and,
for a small fee, gird your loins for battle."
Larry Taylor of the Larry Taylor Blues and Soul Band, had this to say
about Kucinich: "I support Dennis because of his concern for civil
rights and his strong advocacy of the protection from harassment for
all
races and religions." Bonni McKeown, of Barrelhouse Bonni, blues singer
and educator and longtime Kucinich supporter, states; "Dennis has
the
spiritual vision for what America should be, and the political know-how
and the absolute courage to lead us."
These local musicians join the large number of prominent national
artists who have endorsed Kucinich including: Danny Glover, Willie
Nelson, Alice Walker, Ani DiFranco, Bonnie Raitt, Pat Simmons, Tim
Reynolds, John McCutcheon and Chris Shifflett.
The final four programs in the series include: Regina Rodriguez, Tisa
and Greg, and Adam Brockman at the Heartland Cafe, 7000 N. Glenwood,
