CPS Going for Power Grab from Community LSCs

CPS is about to make a major power grab at LSC authority by changing the cut-off point for probation to 40%... Although the law does not give CPS unlimited power over

IMPORTANT!!!

This is a forward from PURE, the parents group we work closely with...to contact them, their email is pure (at) pureparents.org.

CPS is about to make a major power grab at LSC authority by changing the cut-off point for probation to 40%. This will put at least half of CPS schools on probation. The new rules also detail an extensive set of programs and staff positions which probation schools must purchase out of discretionary funds.

Although the law does not give CPS unlimited power over
schools on probation, that is that way they act. LSCs at
probation schools are treated as if they are advisory only, and in fact are rarely even asked for advice.

This raises the spectre of 200 new probation hearings and
possible firing of more principals.

If CPS removes a principal due to probation, the LSC will not be able to select a new one until the school is off probation (which now seems unlikely ever to happen).

I ask that you call the Board office at 773/553-1600 and ask that they fax you the policy, PO3, and then call them and Duncan's office (773/553-1500) to tell them what you think about their plan.

We heard about this proposal for the first time today, from a reporter. It is supposedly going to be voted on at the
Wednesday Board meeting.
