Miami Beach Officer's Wife Charged With Robbing Bank

Hmmm.......
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. -- A police officer's wife robbed a bank, then escaped in a minivan, police said.

Deborah Cubides, 32, was arrested late Wednesday at her Miramar home, about 12 hours after city police say she robbed a Washington Mutual branch in this Fort Lauderdale suburb. Her husband, Nelson Cubides, is a Miami Beach police officer. The mother of two children under 10 years of age is a stay-at-home mom, police said.

"She's the first female robber I've heard of in Pembroke Pines," Capt. Keith Palant told the Miami Herald.

Police said Cubides, who has no known criminal record, entered the bank wearing a black crocheted hat, dark glasses, bright green scarf, black skirt, black long coat and bright red lipstick, and demanded money.

"She told the teller that she had a gun and that she would blow the place up," Palant said. No gun or bomb was found.

After receiving the loot, the robber walked out and drove off in a dark-colored minivan. Witnesses gave police a license plate number, which officers say they tracked to Cubides.

Investigators said they searched her home and found clothing that matched witness accounts of the robber. They say they also found a note that was given to the teller.

Cubides was being held Thursday at Broward County Jail on $11,000 bond, charged with robbery and threatening to throw, place or discharge a destructive device. A message left at the Cubides' home was not immediately returned Thursday.

Miami Beach police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said his department's internal affairs officers are aware of the robbery, but said Nelson Cubides is not believed to have been involved in the robbery.
