Environmental Racism Discussion

fisk and crawford power plants are dirty. learn how to help clean their act up
Clean Power Study Break in Hutch Wed. 8:00

Come enjoy free, authentic Mexican food while you learn more about environmental
racism in the city of Chicago.  The communities of Little Village and Pilsen are
stuck with 2 coal power plants that cause problems such as 2,800 asthma attacks,
500 emergency room visits and 41 premature deaths a year because they've been
grandfathered.  This means these plants owned by Edison International do not
have to follow current environmental standards.  Because of this they pump tons
of carbon dioxide, mercury and other pollutants into the air and water that is in
Little Village, Pilsen and other Chicago communities.

Jerry Mead, with the Clean Power Campaign, will discuss how their group is
trying to get the city of Chicago to clean up these power plants and what we can
do to help them get the Clean Power Ordinance passed in Chicago.
