Stop the Disappearances Car Caravan

Saturday, February 21st.

AN ACTION TO OPPOSE THE REGISTRATIONS AND DEPORTATIONS, IN SOLIDARITY WITH OUR ARAB, MUSLIM AND S. ASIAN BROTHERS & SISTERS, IN DEFENSE OF THE RIGHTS OF ALL IMMIGRANTS

Second Planning Meeting for Stop the Disappearances Car Caravan:

Thursday, January 22nd, 6:30 pm

Loyola University, 6525 N. Sheridan, 966 Damen Hall

(Across soccer field/track from "el", Loyola exit on Red Line, parking at Madonna De La Strada parking lot.)

WHAT: A car caravan that will go through Devon Ave. and other north side neighborhoods with immigrant and other open-minded populations, a
solidarity rally on Devon Ave, and a press conference. We can get our message out to thousands of people, and an urgently needed expression of support for the Pakistani community.

WHY? Devon Ave is emptying out, families are being broken up, and a climate of fear reigns. The injustice of the 2002-2003 special registrations is in the statistics:

Number voluntarily registered = 82,000

Number detained = 2,500

Number ordered deported = 13,000

Number charged with anything to do with terrorism = 0!

The so-called "war on terrorism" that has unjustly targeted the Muslim, Arab and South Asian communities is being used to justify assaults on
ALL immigrants, as shown by the raids on Hispanic service workers at Chicago airports and Loop office buildings, and by local police enforcing federal immigration laws. (For more info, see www.bluetriangle.org/.)

Everyone concerned with human rights and civil rights needs to make a stand with our immigrant sisters and brothers, many of whom are worried about showing their faces on the street in this climate of fear. We must stop these cruel and baseless registrations, detentions and deportations.
