Today we�ll welcome Mr. Richard Pearl to town. He�s here pimping his new book, An End to Evil. In the book, he voices his strong support for President Bush's wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and for preemptive strikes. He also calls for the use of national ID cards, unwavering support for Israel, a hard line with Libya, Syria and the Saudis, and indifference toward European governments that stand in our way.

Perle was an assistant secretary of defense in the Reagan administration and was forced to resign from the Defense Policy Board last March because of his close ties to companies that hold defense contracts. If you can believe it, Pearl�s nickname in Washington is �the Prince of Darkness�.

Like so many disgusting neo-conservative war criminals, Perle doesn�t just plan invasions and death all over the world - He also makes a profit from them.

Remember the deal where the Pentagon was going to lease planes from Boeing for a lot more money than it would have cost to just buy them? Perle was behind that. He lobbied the deal for Boeing and the company put $20 million into an investment fund he runs.

He�s also being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to lobby for other firms like Global Crossing. To get paid he just has to ask his buddies Rumsfeld and Bush to sign on to his deals.

But Perle doesn�t stop there. He also has a firm grip on the media as a top executive at a company called Hollinger Digital. They own over 400 newspapers - Including the Chicago Sun Times. And all of his papers voice pro-war and anti-Palestinian opinions.

Perle has also been accused of being an Israeli agent. In 1970 a wiretap recorded Perle giving classified information to the Israeli embassy. In 1983, while he was working for Reagan, Perle came under fire for accepting a $50,000 payment from an Israeli arms manufacturer. He said the payment was for work done as a Washington lobbyist before entering government.

And on top of all that, Perle is involved in Total Information Awareness technology. He�s given speeches on how to use computer technology to find patterns in electronic communications like e-mail, credit card records and scans from the grocery store. Congress had to shoot down the TIA idea and says it will not let this technology be used against Americans.

Perle is one of the strongest voices linking the war in Iraq to the War on Terror - even though several Bush administration officials have come out and said that there is no proven connection between Iraq and Al Queda or any other terror group.

Perle said in an interview with Frontline, "There can be no victory in the war against terrorism if, at the end of it, Saddam Hussein is still in power -- not only because he supports terrorism, not only because he trains terrorists and gives them refuge -- but because he is the symbol of defiance of all Western values.�

Perle also has spoken and written about Saddam�s stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction . . . weapons that have not been found in Iraq.

Men like Perle should know that when they come to Chicago they will be targeted for protest. We will not stand for war criminals in our city.
