7:00 PM rally/press conference
Thursday, January 15, 2004
Monthly Police Board Meeting
Chicago Police Headquarters, 3510 S. Michigan
Police Board meeting begins at 7:30 PM SHARP.

If you want to speak at the police board meeting, you MUST call 312-742-4194 by 4PM Wednesday to reserve a speaker's slot.

On December 16, 24-year-old Larry Harper -- the son of community activist Gwen Hogan -- was gunned down at 84th and Crandon in an apparent robbery attempt that also left his companion wounded. Larry's cell phone and other personal effects disappeared from the scene, possibly taken by the two robbers. Detectives in the case have at best shirked their responsibility, and have refused to return phone calls to family members -- even when Larry's fiance called in a panic last week to report that someone had called her from Larry's cell phone.

This is the same police department that refused to criminally charge a drunken off-duty corrections officer when he shot Gwen's husband Kelsey dead in 1999 after an altercation in a south side bar. This is the same police department that has repeatedly dodged charges of police violence -- including the most extreme charges of torture and murder. On Thursday, January 15, Gwen -- who has been a tireless opponent of police violence and a stalwart advocate of police accountability -- will go to the monthly police board meeting to demand that the district commander and the chief of detectives step up the investigation of Larry's murder. Support Gwen Hogan. Join her and her supporters at this Thursday's monthly police board meeting.
