
On March 28, guards working for Standard Fruit -- a subsidiary of Dole Foods -- murdered four campesinos as they walked to work on unused land they had reclaimed from the company. The killings are part of a string of attacks on campesinos and union workers -- and a larger struggle for economic justice that has pitted poor peasants against powerful international conglomerates and their hired guns in the region.
