Since the elite gathering began on January 31, a series of small and spirited protests and forums have been held across the city -- including two counter-summits hosted by Students for Global Justice, and Public Eye on Davos. But Saturday's protests were by far the largest actions organized against the devastating impact of the global capitalist policies advanced by the WEF.
Despite the peaceful and celebratory character of the day's events, police repeatedly attacked the permitted marches, making 40 arrests according to the NY People's Law Collective. Read more about the NYPD attacks in this eyewitness account. Groups that mobilized for Saturday's actions included the International ANSWER Coalition, Another World is Possible, Reclaim The Streets NYC, and the NY Anti-Capitalist Convergence.
