WE THE PEOPLE ON THE MOVE

WE THE PEOPLE has a major ad running today in USA Today. Pick up a copy and see what a determined group of people can achieve on the basis of private contributions.

The ad asks the question, WHAT WOULD LIFE IN AMERICA BE LIKE WITHOUT A CONSTITUTION?

Then the answers are laid out: A WAR WITHOUT A FORMAL DECLARATION.

A “PATRIOT ACT” THAT DESTROYS OUR RIGHTS.

A TAX SYSTEM WITH NO LEGAL AUTHORITY.

A PRIVATELY OWNED CENTRAL BANK.

And then: IT’S TIME TO DEFEND OUR CONSTITUTION.

I like it. I like it a lot.

I’m tempted to compliment USA Today on accepting the ad, except such a congratulation would be too ridiculous. After all, the ad simply spells out the facts and the truth vis-à-vis a document that forms the basis for our government.

It does occur to me to issue a challenge to the pieces of our political spectrum that normally view all reference to the Constitution as a subversive act. Look at the ad. Read it. Find out that there are elements you DO agree with. Contact WE THE PEOPLE. Make a connection. “Left” and “right” are mirages that obscure our common ground.

In contrast to this, we have the scuzzy scandal underway at the SEC, where Chairman Harvey Pitt is being attacked for not telling his chief colleagues that William Webster had been embroiled in a financial scandal at Webster's old company, US Technologies.

Webster is now head honcho at the SEC oversight committee---having just been elected---which will try to impose better standards on the auditors who monitor the finances of corporations.

Yeah, Webster was elected, but Pitt failed to first warn his voting pals that Webster had, in 2001, decided to kick out the independent accounting firm that had found US Technolgies was running its operations with no real financial controls.

US Technologies is now being sued by angry investors (its stock tanked) and probed by the DOJ.

So now Webster will bring that same awesome expertise to straighten out some of the biggest, sharpest corporate and accounting crooks in America.

Webster is, of course, the former head of both the FBI and the CIA---not wonderful resume boosters to the informed among us.

On Webster's watch at the FBI, Robert Hanssen switched sides and went to work for Russia, stealing everything in the FBI store.

While leading the CIA, Webster failed to notice that the USSR was about to go belly up. That's the conventional wisdom. Actually, Webster failed to relay any info on the impending Soviet collapse because the whole deal was being handled at a higher level. But that's another story.

Webster knows nothing about accounting or finances.

After 9/11, he defended both the FBI and the CIA against charges that these two agencies had failed, with their billions of taxpayer dollars, to prevent the catastrophes in NYC and DC.

There is much, much more. For example, you can read Boston Globe/AP coverage of a 20-year scandal at the FBI, part of it on Webster's watch, in which "FBI headquarters in Washington knew that its Boston agents were using hit men and mob leaders as informants and shielding them from prosecution for serious crimes, including murder...[FBI headquarters in Washington] knew that one informant who masterminded a murder was allowed to go free as four innocent men were sent to prison in his place."

Of course, the White House, particularly Chief of Staff Andrew Card, is firmly behind the choice of Webster for this new role as head SEC accounting-corruption watchdog.

It's all part of the campaign to let corporate theft go on. And on.

How do we get into such maniacal complications? By surrendering the conception of the Constitution that WE THE PEOPLE is trying to restore.
