HUMAN CHAIN AROUND THE IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION SERVICE

You might have noticed… Workers’ rights are under attack!
Nothing Works without Workers!
Demand fair Labor and Immigration Laws!

THE PROBLEM: In the past few months we have seen a series of attacks by the Bush administration and the Supreme Court that are undermining the rights of workers, especially low-wage, immigrant workers. The Supreme Court’s decision on the Hoffman Plastics Vs. NLRB case creates an underclass of fully exploitable workers, by denying undocumented workers their right to back-wages when illegally fired for organizing into a union. Meanwhile, the Social Security Administration is busy sending millions of no-match letters to employers and as a consequence thousands of workers are being fired. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 needs to be fixed so workers are not pit against each other.

THE SOLUTION:
- Strengthen the National Labor Relations Act, so workers are on equal footing regardless of their document status;
- Pass a legalization program that provides workers who have for years worked hard to build this country a legal status;
- Ammend the Immigration Reform and Control Act;
- Social Security Administration should stop sending no-match letters to employers.
