Amid sentencing of convicted torturer Jon Burge, Chicago torture victims' families speak out

On Thursday, January 20, 2011, convicted police torturer Jon Burge will be sentenced on charges related to perjury and obstruction of justice. Burge ran a torture ring for the better part of two decades on Chicago's south side, and Burge was fired from the Chicago police in 1993, but the caustic influence of Burge continues still with police torture victims, activists, and victims' families raising ongoing charges of police misconduct.

Activists have vowed to attend the Burge sentencing hearing, and Chicago Indymedia has posted a roundtable discussion with community activists and relatives of torture victims to discuss Jon Burge and issues stemming from police torture.
