From the newswire: "All 13 new Chicago Public Schools 'Renaissance 2010' schools scheduled to open [in fall 2006] are contract or charter schools. These are privately
run, yet publically funded schools that have non-union teachers, and little to no community input via Local School Councils.
The expected move by CPS to exceed its current charter school cap of 30 has happened. [Thus,] Sen. Martin Sandoval has filed a bill,
SB2979, to leave the number of charters statewide at 60 but remove all the caps. This only affects Chicago since the other caps are far from being met."
