Saturday, N22: Chicago activists have issued an urgent appeal for bond support and jail solidarity for Chicago activists and others jailed in Miami in the wake of anti-FTAA protests this week. Legal supporters reported earlier today that a number of arrestees who have been released were severely
beaten in jail. There are also reports and allegations of sexual assaults in jail, and
abuse that some have characterized as
torture targetting jailed activists -- particularly people of color.
A number of women from Chicago remain in jail, and solidarity activists in Miami are gravely concerned for their well-being. Chicago activists have mounted an emergency
fundraising campaign for bail money for the Chicago activists, as well as hundreds of others who remain jailed.
