Friends of the Albany Park Day Laborers have organized a Day Labor Watch in response to alleged civil rights abuses by the Chicago police. Last month, city officials destroyed the Workers' Center the Day Laborers had built in the CTA turnaround at Foster and Pulaski and they also fenced off the turnaround. Since then, the Albany Park Day Laborers have been congregating at Foster and Argyle. In an interview on Wednesday morning at Foster and Argyle, Jessica Aranda, of the Latino Union, alleged that there has been constant police surveillance of the Day Laborers. She said that the police have been ticketing the workers and contractors.
