CHICAGO LABOR: Congress Hotel Workers' Strike Enters Seventh Week

Congress Hotel Strke

Since June 15, workers at downtown Chicago's Congress Hotel have been on strike to protest deep cuts in wages and benefits -- and they and their supporters have vowed to outlast management in the battle for a living wage.

Last summer, Congress owners chose not to join other Chicago hotels in citywide negotiations that won historic improvements in salary and benefits for some of the city's most exploited and underpaid workers. Congress workers struck on Fathers Day -- when management unilaterally imposed a 7% across-the-board wage cut and gutted benefits.
