HUMAN RIGHTS: Chicago's LGBT Community Celebrates Supreme Court Victory

The June 26 Supreme Court decision to strike down Texas' notorious anti-gay "Homosexual Conduct Law" prompted celebrations by Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered people in at least 36 cities Thursday night, as activists plan to promote the full pro-gay implications of the court's decision. Organizers said the rallies were critical in ensuring that the Court's positive decisions are actually implemented. "We will take this pro-gay decision as the foot in the door with which we'll fight for our full equal rights -- equal marriage rights as they have in Canada, equal employment rights in every state, equal access to health care, housing -- total equality under the law," said Robin Tyler, National Supreme Court Civil Rights Rally Co-coordinator. "We will take this victory and remain active in the streets to make sure the Court's ruling doesn't remain just a piece of paper." Read More
