
39th ward alderman Margaret Laurino has said that on Tuesday, July 1 she will
kick out day laborers from their current assembly space and workers' center at a defunct CTA bus turnaround on Pulaski near Foster in Chicago's Albany Park neighborhood. The
day laborers, who are among the most exploited in the
workforce, were displaced from their previous space at a Salvation Army building on Chicago's northwest side in late March. They and their supporters say the current site meets all of the criteria for a successful workers’ center -- visibility, accessibility, and proximity -- and have vowed draw the line on Tuesday and fight to stay in their current space.
