For more than 20 years, the Arab American Community Center has served as a
meeting space and locus for progressive organizing in Chicago's Palestinian
and Arab communities. On December 3, the Center was the target of an
arson attack that gutted the offices of two important community groups as
well as seriously damaging the building. The police are currently
investigating to determine if the attack was a 'hate crime'. Given the
increasingly
repressive political climate, and the wave of
anti-Arab and anti-Muslim attacks across the
country, the
Chicago Coalition
Against War and Racism is organizing an
emergency benefit to help rebuild the Center.
