Whittier School Library Faces Emergency Threat

The struggle to preserve the La Casita library at Whittier School in Chicago's Pilsen Neighborhood has ramped up this evening, August 16th, as CPS authorities have once again posed an imminent threat to demolish the library. An emergency lockdown protest is underway. UPDATE: According to one account, demolition crews are leaving the site, with the building intact; a meeting between parents and CPS officials is promised tomorrow morning (August 17th). Parents are staying the night at the library nevertheless. Live video of the occupation is online here.
