WHAT: After months of community pressure and shaming of area politicians who had sat ontheir hands, today it was announced that the North Side Housing & Supportive Services Shelter on Lawrence Avenue will be saved from closure previously slated for tomorrow, just two days before Christmas.

WHERE: A rally will begin at the La!e Shore Drive Wilson Avenue viaduct (Wilson & Marine) Drive), and then march to the shelter at 941 W. Lawrence Avenue.

WHAT: The short rally begins at 10AM, Friday, Dec. 23rd, followed by the march.

WHO: Uptown Tent City Organizers, North Side Action for Justice, Gay Liberation Network and other local community organizations that have fought to keep the shelter open and oppose the police and "social services" harassment of the homeless living underneath the Lake Shore Drive viaducts. Only months of community demands against the obstinance of Alderman James Cappleman, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Governor Bruce Rauner and House Speaker Mike Madigan have brought us this victory.

NOTE: For those media personnel who want to witness the often weekly harassment of the homeless, where they are forced to move their tents often in bitterly cold weather, we suggest that you arrive at the Lake Shore Drive viaducts at 8AM.
