LOS ANGELES, October 31, 2016 – As Donald Trump raises the spectre about “rigged elections,” blaming deceased voters and the liberal media, investigative reporter Greg Palast’s new movie THE BEST DEMOCRACY MONEY CAN BUY: A TALE OF BILLIONAIRES AND BALLOT BANDITS fingers the culprits…and it’s not who Trump says it is. Palast will be in Chicago for a screening of the film on Tuesday, November 1st at the Rainbow PUSH HQ (930 East 50th Chicago IL 60615) at 6:30 pm and is open to the public. Based on his New York Times bestselling book, the part-documentary/part film noir caper features Rosario Dawson, Shailene Woodley, Willie Nelson, Ice-T and more. It reveals how nearly one million minority voters, mostly voters of color, will be knocked off the voting lists because of a program known as “Interstate CrossCheck,” which is currently operating in 30 states.

Palast is best known for exposing how Florida purged thousands of innocent Black people from the voter rolls in 2000 to steal the election for George W. Bush. His new film is “arguably the best pro-Civil Rights film made since 2014’s ‘Selma’.” -Ed Rampell, Hollywood Progressive) and reveals how CrossCheck currently identifies 1 in 7 African- Americans (in 30 states) listed as under suspicion of having voted twice and how the program has been backed by Trump’s billionaire cronies.

SYNOPSIS:
When Donald Trump says, "This election is rigged"—he should know. His buddies are rigging it.

Rolling Stone investigative reporter Greg Palast busted Jeb Bush for stealing the 2000 election by purging Black voters from Florida’s electoral rolls. Now Palast is back to take a deep dive into the Republicans’ dark operation, Crosscheck, designed to steal a million votes by November.

Crosscheck is controlled by a Trump henchman, Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State who claims his computer program has identified 7.2 million people in 29 states who may have voted twice in the same election--a felony crime. The catch? Most of these ‘suspects’ are minorities—in other words, mainly Democratic voters. Yet the lists and the evidence remain “confidential.”

Palast and his investigative partner Leni Badpenny do what it takes to get their hands on the data, analyzing it to find the names of nearly one million Americans about to lose their vote by November.

They hunt down and confront Kobach with the evidence of his "lynching by laptop." Then they are off to find the billionaires behind this voting scam. The search takes Palast from Kansas to the Arctic, the Congo, and to a swanky Hamptons dinner party held by Trump’s sugar-daddy, John Paulson, a.k.a. "JP The Foreclosure King." Palast and Badpenny stake out top GOP donors, the billionaire known as "The Vulture" and the Koch brothers, whom Palast nails with a damning tape recording.

In this real life detective story brought to life in a film noir style with cartoon animation, secret documents, hidden cameras, and a little help from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Detectives Ice-T and Richard Belzer, Shailene Woodley, Rosario Dawson, Willie Nelson and Ed Asner, Palast and his associates expose the darkest plans of the uber-rich to steal America’s democracy.

The film, based on the book, “The Best Democracy Money Can Buy: A Tale of Billionaires & Ballot Bandits,” released by Seven Stories Press was produced and co-directed by David Ambrose (co-founder of Art Not War) with music by Bulgarian composer Mario Grigorov (Precious, Flowers in the Attic). For Palast’s film, legendary musician Graham Nash re-recorded his Crosby, Stills & Nash blockbuster hit "Chicago," re-writing the words to reference Ohio, the most crucial swing state in the coming election. Cartoons are by Emmy award-winning artist Keith Tucker (Who Killed Roger Rabbit). Executive producer is Leni Badpenny von Eckardt-Manzoni in association with The Park Foundation, The Puffin Foundation and the Cloud Mountain Foundation. Cinema Libre Studio is distributor. Running time is 110 Minutes and it is unrated.
