"Thank you, Angela" March in Carbondale
Activists organized a "Thank you, Angela" demonstration that took place Saturday, Feb. 15, two days after Angela Davis spoke at Shryock Auditorium on Southern Illinois University Carbondale Campus.
In addition to extending thanks to Davis for coming to Carbondale, activists inveighed against mass incarceration and the injustices of the criminal justice system as they marched. They made their way up Illinois Avenue -- "the strip" in Carbondale, Ill. -- chanting "Thank you, Angela Davis! Thank you, Angela!" and "Stop paying poor folks to lock up poor folks!" and "Human need, not corporate greed!" and "It's not over, no one's free. Prison equals slavery!"
