Obama is Absolutely Right to Re-evaluate Afghanistan Strategy

'Obama Is Absolutely Right to Re-evaluate Afghanistan Strategy'

Gordon Goldstein's book on the lessons of the Vietnam War is required reading in the Obama White House. In an interview with SPIEGEL ONLINE, Goldstein talks about why Obama should think long and hard about sending more troops to Afghanistan and not rush into the kinds of decisions that Vietnam-era politicians now regret.

Re: Obama is Absolutely Right to Re-evaluate Afghanistan Strategy

Is Obama re-evaluating the Afghanistan strategy? Perhaps this book is being read by some in the White House but I haven't heard Obama make any statements indicating that he thinks we should send our troops home now and end the war. If fact, our military spending is now higher than it ever was under Bush and the media is full of reports that McCrystal is recommending huge troop escalations in Afghanistan in the near future. Is Obama coming forward to disagree?
Obama has stated that the War in Afghanistan is the "good war" and that it is necessary for our national security (same type of thing we heard from Bush to sell us on the Iraq War). The U.S. is backing a completely corrupt government in Afghanistan under Karzai. Yet, Obama is doing nothing.
