Nice, reckless borrowers protesting reckless lenders. Priceless.

Cheers,

A renter that doesn't use credit cards.

Addendum:

A typical member bank of the ABA has about $125 million in assets.

The speakers include government people (FDIC, comptroller of the currency) and conservative pundits (Gingrich and Will).

No Goldman Sachs, no Citigroup, no JP Morgan, no Bank of America.

You idiots are picketing the wrong banks.

Re: Photos: Protests against the American Bankers Association

No such thing as a "Good" bank!

Re: Re: Photos: Protests against the American Bankers Association

Fred M,

Let me give you an analogy. If, say Obama, comes to town and stays at the Sheraton, would you picket the Democratic offices of the 44th ward?

Re: Photos: Protests against the American Bankers Association

ABA calls itself "the preeminent banking trade association in the country." It represents 95% of all US bank assets. The majority of its members are banks with less than $125 million in assets ... but the majority of the total wealth that it represents still belongs to the biggest banks.

By targeting the ABA, the national groups who organized the main protest (National People's Action & the unions) are focusing on its policy positions and lobbying clout against financial reforms such as the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, and not necessarily against individual member banks. On Monday the NPA also protested outside the Chicago HQ of Goldman Sachs and inside the lobby of Wells Fargo. However, as an anarchist, I did not join the protests to advocate for financial reforms or to oppose individual banks, but to help articulate a more radical critique of capitalism itself ... which I think was accomplished, crudely but effectively, even though these protests would have been much better if such had been the general attitude in the streets.
