Chicago St Pats Day parade - Irish Freedom Committee marches for IPOWs
If you are in the Chicago area the weekend of St. Patrick’s Day, the Charlie Kerins Cumann of the Irish Freedom Committee welcomes you to march with the only Irish Republican contingent in the downtown Chicago St. Patrick’s Day parade. The parade will be held on Saturday March 14th, rain or shine, commencing promptly at Noon. This year we are marching with the theme REMEMBER THE POWs. We will carry a large banner calling for Political Status for all Irish Republican POWs, and individual marchers will carry large photo placards showing some of the many Irish political prisoners interned in British, Irish, and Eastern European jails; calling attention to the recent internment without charge of Terry McCafferty, concerns for the health and welfare of Michael Campbell in Lithuania, and the continued efforts to seek repatriation for Noel Maguire; as well as highlighting many other injustices of the Special Courts and the war of Occupation in Ireland. We will also distribute leaflet information on the POWs to parade-watchers, and set the story straight about the so-called “Peace Process” which has set the struggle for Irish sovereignty back nearly 100 years.
