A march was held on Saturday in the South Chicago community in memory of 10-year old Nequiel Fowler. The march was a surprise to many community residents because of a described "lack of effort" on the part of politicians.

However, there was a large turnout at the march in a large part due to the busing in of people with alleged political ties. During the rally a number of people were interviewed who came from Hyde Park, the west side and the north side.



A group of young African American teens from Hyde Park interviewed stated that they did not even know why they were there. A young woman said that her mom forced her to attend the rally, because according to her "Daley wanted us to be here".

These imported protesters brought banners and signs to display for the march.



Another man interviewed who came from the northside mentioned that he wasn't alone and a group of his other colleagues were present throughout the crowd.

A woman questioned who came from the west side stated, "we came to show our support for the people trying to stop the killings".

A activist interviewed stated, "Its real sad what happened to Nee-Nee, but it pisses me off to see the lack of effort in getting people in the hood involved, and how these cops who abuse many of our people are acting like they care". He states, "Had there been a bigger effort from Pope and Daley the people in the hood would have come, but I think they didn't cause they wouldn't like what the people would've said in front of the cameras."

A woman interviewed down the street complained how the police yelled at her children for running to see what was "going on" and told to keep her children at home.

One resident asked "what was going on" but remarked that it was nice that people were willing to come from outside the area to support Nee Nee, but said he would've like to know.

Large groups of people were seen on their porches but didn't seem too anxious to join the crowd. One man remarked his lack of involvement was mainly because "its a show for the politicians and nothings going to change". Its unclear if others felt the same or if their lack of participation was because of fear of gang retaliation.

There was a large participation of Latino residents and one community organizer commented that it was due to the participation of the Latino churches in the area.

It is unclear if the same effort was used to reach out to the many black churches in the area.
