Saturday was the inaugural International Day Against Homophobia (I.D.A.HO) event in Chicago. IDAHO was started a few years ago in Europe as a means to call attention to the problem of anti-gay hate in countries around the world, including here in the United States.

10:53 PDT BERKELEY -- Some 50 protesters, clad in orange jumpsuits and black hoods to emulate the infamous photos of prisoners in Iraq, picketed the Boalt Hall graduation today, demanding that UC Berkeley's law school fire Professor John Yoo for his reported authorship of the Bush administration's policies on torture.

Sgt. Matthis Chiroux, a 24-year-old who spent nearly five years serving in the U.S. Army, publicly refused his orders to deploy to Iraq today. Chiroux made the statement in the rotunda of the Cannon Building of the House of Representatives, just minutes after 8 members of the Iraq Veterans Against the War testified about the realities of the U.S. occupation of Iraq to members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
