Holy Name 6 Update #2: $16,000 Bail Needed!

Supporters and allies of the six protesters arrested yesterday at Holy Name Cathedral have just returned from the arrestees' bond hearing.

Today's hearing was in regards to charges of felony defacement of property at a place of worship in excess of $300; that makes the charge a Class III felony. The fake blood allegedly used in the action stained the auditorium's carpet and 14 chairs, incurring a $400 cleaning bill. According to the prosecuting attorney, the cleaning failed and the carpet will need to be replaced at a cost of $3000. Special conditions have been set for all the arrestees which prevent them from having any contact with Cardinal George, Holy Name Cathedral, or the area of 735 N. State Street.

The bond for Ephran, Regan, Mercedes, Ryne, and Angela is set at $25,000 each. Donte's bond is set at $35,000. In order to be bailed out, each arrestee needs to post 10% of their bond. All told, we need to raise $16,000. To make a donation online, we've set up a Paypal account here. However, PayPal's payout limits make this a less-than-quick way to actually pay the bail. If you live in Chicagoland, please contact us at holyname6 -AT- riseup -DOT- net, or call Tim Salemme at (773) 759 - 8399 to arrange a donation.

All arrestees are scheduled to appear in court at Branch 42 on March 31st.

Re: Holy Name 6 Update #2: $16,000 Bail Needed!

Interesting how the black guy's bail is higher than everyone else's, for committing the same crime.....

Re: Re: Holy Name 6 Update #2: $16,000 Bail Needed!

Not really, he has a prior felony conviction for criminal trespass on Indian lands so the bail bump was pretty much a given.

Don't do the crime if you can't pay the fine.

Re: Re: Re: Holy Name 6 Update #2: $16,000 Bail Needed!

you're repeating bad info; the news did some shitty research. donte trespassed onto a *military* reservation. it's called the school of the americas.

they train terrorists there. wanna keep talking shit?

Re: Holy Name 6 Update #2: $16,000 Bail Needed!

So, when are they going to pull this stunt at a mosque?

Re: Re: Holy Name 6 Update #2: $16,000 Bail Needed!

Your question just shows what a racist shitbag you are. No leader of any Chicago area mosque has sat down with a President that's killed over 1 million people (yes, including 4000 Americans, the only ones you probably care about).

Holy Name Cathedral is not some wayside parish of regular congregants. It's the city's elite cathedral typically home to the likes of Richard M. Daley and other big-league war supporters, who incidentally, also had no problem sitting down with Bush in January.

Tell the Cardinal I will come with a bottle of Simple Green Carpet cleaner and my little scrubby machine and his carpet and chairs will be clean in no time.

Re: Holy Name 6 Update #2: $16,000 Bail Needed!

We just donated $100. via the PayPal account. Screw the bills we have to get our friends out of jail.

THANK YOU FOR DONATING

Thanks for donating. Please spread the word. The faster the bail is raised, the less time these good folks will be sitting in jail.

Get the facts straight

The Holy Name protesters were not violent, except toward a carpet and a bystander's shirt, both of which got some fake "blood" spattered on them. Their action was carried out in the tradition of non-violence, including their submitting to arrest. Can the same be said for the heinous war criminals in the White House and on Capitol Hill?

Secondly, Donte Smith was convicted of criminal tresspass not to "Indian lands," but to the notorious School of the Americas where South American lackeys to Uncle Sam learn to torture and kill their own people.

Even Cardinal George praised their peace message once he resumed his message following the interruption.

Why not call the emminent church leader and ask him to drop the felony charges hanging over the heads of the protesters?

WHY THE HELL IS DONTE BEING CHARGED MORE? BESIDES ASSHOLE DISCRIMINATION?

Re: Re: Holy Name 6 Update #2: $16,000 Bail Needed!

He has a previous arrest for military trespass for crossing the line at SOA in Ft. Benning, GA

Re: Holy Name 6 Update #2: $16,000 Bail Needed!

$16,000 bail for some kids who messed up a carpet and interrupted a religious service? Felony charges? To me, this seems quite excessive. This also brings to mind the situation in DuPage County, where two protestors, who did a banner display over a highway, are being charged with disrupting traffic. I guess the plan is to accuse anyone who publicly protests of being a criminal. Apparently the honesty or proper scale of these accusations is of no consequence.
