Church-goers should be pestered and church services should be disrupted because the people involved in such things are hypocrites. All religious communities claim to stand for moral values, and then when something as blatantly immoral as a war is happening, in all our names, that is when church leaders need to be outspoken against that shit. Take a stand, or shut the fuck up.

As of 730 the CPD at the 18th district claim that they cannot give Ryne his meds, but they they are having an emt check on him every so often. We are not sure if this is true or not. Also, the female bodied people have been moved to 18th and state. We believe they all will have a bond hearing as early as 9am tomorrow but possibly much later. Maybe when pro-life Christians stop pestering planned parenthood clinics, anti-war protesters will stop pestering Catholics.

Actually, about three years ago a pastor of a West Suburban African American congregation announced during a service that the next week he was having a homophobic rally the next week in the church. An African American gay person stood up in the pews right after the pastor made the comment and loudly denounced the pastor for his homophobia and walked out of the service. The result? The homophobic hate fest was then cancelled.

and atheist, there are plenty of reasons to do this action- it was one of the most widely covered actions in chicago of the past week, and that should be enough. but cardinal francis george is also culpable for any number of the area's church hierarchy's problems, which include complacency in the face of this war.

also, for those attacking ryane for an arrestable action, hundreds of disabled activists took over downtown for several days last year, many of whom need meds. people who require medication have every right to resist and protest that anyone else does, and they are not to blame for a system of incarceration and brutality that does not respect their needs. remember may molina.

I don't see a problem with confronting Cardinal George face-to-face in a non-religious setting. The issue at hand is simple: a bunch of jerks harassed, pestered and attacked parishoners who were attending a ceremony unrelated to the war. The only thing these idiots achieved is allienating potential and current allies.

No doubt this alienated a number of folks in the audience at Holy Name. Every protest alienates someone on the scene .. like it or not. Shoppers on Michigan Ave. Passerbys in Federal Plaza. Drivers who are re-reouted because of permitted parade routes. Shoppers who are perturbed by having to cross strikers union picketlines at the supermarket. And decades ago, white working class diners sitting at a lunch counter in Mississippi.

Like it or not, Easter mass at Holy Name has been a public spectacle - with television cameras on the scene - for literally decades in this town. ( so is Easter Mass in Vatican City, in case you've missed it ) And George, like it or not - is a public figure who has taken a conciliatory approach toward George Bush. Would that other religious folks muster the courage to speak up from the audience at their churches, synagogues and mosques against the incredible death and destruction unfolding in Iraq and help shatter the complancy they may find there.
