Almost every day we hear about another reactionary act by the latest fascist in the White House, Democratic millionaire, warmonger, death penalty promoter Obama. The latest is the fact that he refuses to drop the charges and dismiss the frame-up of 70-year-old seriously ill people's lawyer Lynne Stewart and her co-defendants but instead allows the 2d Circuit to immediately jail her. The protests must be loud and clear as this is fascism

With President Obama's trip to East Asia ending later this week, his long expected announcement of a troop surge to deepen the United States' occupation of Afghanistan is expected soon.

"Not learning lessons from the bank collapse reproduces or strengthens the dominance of the financial sector. The danger of a repetition of the crisis grows.. The political right-wing slanders the health reform as an `attack on freedom.'"

In the ten years since the World Trade Organization (WTO) protests in Seattle, global opposition to free trade and “globalization” has exploded. The general public now has a basic understanding of how the world economy works … against them: companies scour the globe searching for slave wages, which help push down wages in “developed” countries; any regulation that reduces profits — environmental, financial, labor, etc. — is destroyed or ignored.

The two focal points of the anti-globalization movement have been dismantling of the WTO and free trade agreements; both legitimate targets. However, what happens if both goals are accomplished? Mission Accomplished?

The Copenhagen Climate Change conference next month, once the great hope of environmentalists, had its teeth pulled this week after an accord between China and the United States to postpone an envisaged global treaty that would have set limits to gas and carbon dioxide emissions world-wide.
With the main polluters out of the treaty project the conference is a lame duck.

We are kicking off the Chicago Anti-Eviction Campaing this Tuesday with an eviction blockade to stop Lenise Forrest and her family from being evicted from Cabrini Green for owing back rent. She had a payment plan under previous management but the new management has refused to recognize it and is trying to put her out on the street. She is appealing the eviction but the Sheriff is still scheduled to evict her Tuesday morning.
