On Friday June 8, 2007, President of DePaul University, Fr. Holtschneider, told Norman Finkelstein in a three page letter, that he would not receive tenure. Despite his impressive resume of positive student evaluations, peer reviewed books and positive votes at the department and college level, Holtschneider cited the University tenure board decision in denying tenure. Holtschneider also cited ad hominum attacks from Finkelstein on his colleagues as basis for denying tenure.
This is troubling on many levels. Finkelstein had yearly reviews and never before had Vincentian values or ad hominum attacks been cited as issues of concern. Also of concern is that the DePaul faculty handbook required professors to be alerted in the University tenure board voted against them, Finkelstein was not alerted.
The University has come under sustained pressure from pro-Israel groups who have slandered Finkelstein because of his criticism of Israel policies in occupied Palestine. Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz had been interfering in DePaul’s internal tenure process.
Finkelstein was not the only professor denied tenure. Other professors who were vocally supportive of Finkelstein were denied tenure. Mehrene Larudee, a professor in international studies who received unanimous votes at the faculty and college level, was denied tenure. Alex Papadopoulas was also denied tenure. It is unknown which other progressive faculty members were denied tenure.
Some have speculated that the school is padding itself from criticism by letting many professors go, so that it can claim that it wasn’t on a vendetta against Finkelstein. Others worry of a purge of other faculty who voted for Finkelstein in the faculty and college levels.
Students will be meeting tomorrow to decide a course of action. They are particularly upset as they had rallied for Finkelstein outside of his meeting with the University tenure board and had been collecting petitions in support of Finkelstein’s tenure.
It is likely that the faculty denied tenure will appeal to the faculty council. It is unknown if lawsuits will arise out of this situation. Typically faculty are offered a one year contract after being denied tenure to find another job.
While it would be easy to become depressed at this news, we should remember that the repression on DePaul’s campus is miniscule compared to what the Palestinian people have been subjected to. We should also keep in mind that this is far from settled. Stay tuned to

Re: Pro-Palestine Professor Finkelstein Denied Tenure at DePaul

This was one of the main reasons I chose DePaul. I hope to fight repression throughout my legal career. I hope to bring greater social justice and equality to those people who are being oppressed by the rampant and institutional racism and discrimination and greed that are the fabric of our world. I was inspired by DePaul's mission and thought the school was a good fit.
Unfortunately, its easy to say one thing, yet do another. DePaul was scared. Scared to stand by its own mission. Scared to stand by a man who has tried to bring light to one of the worst human crises today: the brutal and racist occupation of Palestine.
I can't claim to be surprised, after dealing with the issue of Palestine and the DePaul administration last fall, that Professor Norman Finkelstein has been denied tenure. Despite whatever reason he may have been given by DePaul, we all know what really happened: the school bowed to Zionist pressures and didn't stand by its own mission. I admit I had hoped for the best, that the school would stand up for a professor many students admire and not bow under pressure. But the University has failed Finkelstein and it failed me.

"Holocaust survivor, Nobel Prize winner Ellie Wiesel"
09 Jun 2007
Ellie Wiesel is chief among the proprietors of the Holocaust Industry, as Finkelstein has shown. His status as Holocaust "survivor" is used to justify Israeli terror against the Palestinians, with Wiesel taking the high road sometimes deploring violence, but always backing firm Iraeli measures to protect the presumed holy nation, the Jewish security state. To call him a "clown," is to yank the halo from the head of the man who backs Murder, Inc. (Israel Division)
As for the Nobel Peace Prize, another recipient of that honor is the war criminal Henry Kissinger. Case closed.

For those who have a hard time understanding the Zionists as Nazi collaborators (and also, anti-communist supporters of the US capitalist class' murder of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg on June 19, 1953 for the contrived crime of "conspiracy to commit atomic espionage" of which they were innocent), read:

Letter from Francis Boyle: De Paul & Dershowitz v. Finkelstein
To the Editor:
I think I have read almost every book Professor Norman Finkelstein has written. He is on my
"automatic buy" list along with Noam Chomsky and a handful of others. Professor Finkelstein is
an outstanding scholar who has had and will continue to have a momentous impact on Middle
East Studies.
It is a disgrace that DePaul University--which purports to be Catholic--succumbed to political
pressure and inflicted this grave injustice upon Professor Finkelstein at the behest of Alan
Derhsowitz and his Neo-Conservative confederates.
As for Dershowitz, he is a self-incriminated war criminal who publicly admitted that he serves
on a Mossad Committee that authorizes the murder and assassination of Palestinians, which
constitutes a grave violation of the Geneva Conventions and thus a serious war crime.
Dershowitz is also infamous around the world for being this country\'s foremost advocate for
torture.
In my opinion it is Professor Finkelstein who far better represents the real values and ethos of
the Jewish People. In any event, it is a shame that the University named after St. Vincent DePaul
has allied itself with Dershowitz against the courageous Norman Finkelstein. Unlike
Dershowitz, Professor Finkelstein has always spoken the Truth to those in Power. By
comparison, Dershowitz is nothing more than an Errand Boy for those in Power. But as St.
Vincent DePaul University should have understood: "You shall know the Truth, and the Truth
shall set you free!"

I hope this starts a much-needed backlash against thugs who equate America with Israel. Sharon is no more like Seinfeld than Goebbes was like Clark Gable.
Enough! Maybe it's time for the world to move Israel to Antarctica so everyone, including Jews, can live in peace wherever they want.

Finkelstein: Allegations of Sexism

Finkelstein’s Sexism
28 Jun 2007
By Alan M. Dershowitz
So now it turns out that the martyr of the academic hard left, Norman Finkelstein, was denied tenure at DePaul University not so much because of my critique of his non-scholarship, but in large part because of his overt sexism.
According to a news story in today’s Chicago Sun-Times, a report filed against his tenure by three members of the Political Science faculty “claims that Finkelstein allegedly called a female staff member a ‘bitch.’” The report also claimed that Finkelstein “shunned” colleagues who disagreed with him and that his boorish conduct extended to “dramatically closing his office door when his colleague arrives.” In addition to describing his abusive sexist behavior toward a subordinate, the report characterized Finkelstein as “mean spirit” and as “unprofessional.”
This negative report was suppressed by Finkelstein supporters who leaked other, more favorable assessments.
Finkelstein refused to comment on the newly disclosed report, just as he refused to confirm or deny that he had arranged for a neo-Nazi cartoonist to draw a picture of me masturbating in ecstatic joy at dead Lebanese civilians. He did apparently demand that the authors of the negative report provide “proof” of his use of the b-word against a subordinate, but that is his usual way of issuing a non-denial denial.
So in addition to being a Jewish anti-Semite, Finkelstein now emerges as a left wing sexist bigot who is willing to use abusive words to a subordinate. Will he still remain the darling of the hard Left now that this darker sexist side has emerged?

Using the word 'bitch'?
Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
