i saw the small protest outside of the ACC last tuesday, and was really disappointed. why wasn't there any publicity for that action whatsoever? and why was it during finals when no one could participate? how are you ever going to make your actions effective if it is only you and your alienating group of white boy "anarchist" college friends? what needs to happen is some major outreach and coalition building. if you're focusing on campuses, then why netowrk with some queer student orgs or feminist orgs or "ethnic" orgs?? gee, i don't know, maybe those communities have something to say about military recruitment and war? and what happened to creative activism? there are so many options to create a real disturbance. just look at other universities that have had successful anti-recruitment actions. die-ins, queer kiss-ins, street theater, sit-ins. you name it! it is time to make our actions inherently radical rather than just relying on radical rhetoric and symbols. just because you hold a red and black flag doesn't mean anything.

i don't mean to sound like a jerk or come off as "knowing better". but there is a critique to be made. the center is a great opportunity for some bad ass activism, which is lacking in this city. but it's not going to happen like this.

It's interesting that they've now changed the name of the RECRUITING STATION to the "Career Center".

SDS is an organization that is based in thoughtful, meaningful, strategic action that is based on winning concrete goals, building power, and envisioning a new society. our actions are accountable to the communities we organize in.

as an SDS member its disappointing and a little embarrassing to see this action with the most alienating slogans/banners imaginable in what seems like an action that was very poorly thought out.

Since it was preemptive, it's okay that it wasn't well-publicized or very big. But the day after the recruiting station opens should be well-publicized. The responsibility of spreading the word is not JUST that of the people organizing it. Everyone who knows about it should be helping to make it big, especially the people who were disappointed by the pre-rally.
