INDY MEDIA EXCLUSIVE: Mayor Daley Scheduled to be Deposed in Torture Case(s)
While City lawyers have filed motions to prevent his testimony, if these motions fail, they have agreed to produce Mayor Richard M. Daley on June 1st for a deposition in the police torture case of Madison Hobley.
A specific time and location for Daley's deposition has not yet been decided.
At issue is what did Daley know about the tortures, when did he know it, and why did he fail to act on the known information about the tortures that was given to him, such as the City's Goldston Report and a letter sent to him by former Police Superintendent Richard Brzezczek.
In related news, former Police Superintendent Phil Cline is scheduled to be continue his deposition testimony about the tortures on May 23rd. Cline took over as Violent Crimes Commander in Area 2, before his rise to superintendent.
A group of long-standing civil rights activists, Black People Against Police Torture, has mobilized to demand that the City of Chicago NOT be given the 2016 Summer Olympic Games unless it comes clean on the tortures by criminally prosecuting former police commander Jon Burge and his fellow police perpetrators, ending payment of Burge's city pension, and compensating the victims. While the May 23rd and June 1st depositions fall far short of those demands, they will at least finally force Daley and Cline to testify under oath about what they knew, when they knew it, and why they failed to act.
For those of us sick of watching Daley hangers-on go all ga ga over the Olympics spectacle, watching Daley squirm over far more serious issues will be a welcome respite.
Finally, on Tuesday, April 24th attorneys for former death row inmates tortured by Chicago police will release their "Shadow Report" on police torture, addressing the numerous inaccuracies of the multi-million dollar Special Prosecutor's Report released last year. The release of the Shadow Report will take place at 9:30 AM on the 8th floor of Northwestern University's Blum Legal Clinic, 750 N. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago.

We must ask the question," How is it that William Pendersen {former CPD Detective #8553} a ferderal conficted felon, a Defendant in the Aaron Patterson vs Jon Burge case# 03 cv 4433 federal civil torture suit, who was hired by Supt. of Police Phil Cline in 2003 { when he Cline was Chief of Det.}to teach ethics to newly appointed Police Lieutenants, Sergeants and Detectives, who{ Pedersen} is an investigator for the Cook County Public Defenders office?
How is it that the City of Chicago taxpayers are paying Pedersen's legal fees in the Aaron Patterson vs. Jon Burge case, when the city of Chicago won't pay his pension, because he is a convicted felon? FINANCE JUSTICE NOT TORTURE!!!!
