More than 5,000 people from the metro area gathered on Tuesday, March 20 to mark the 4th anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq War -- and to demand an end to war funding and for troops to be brought home now. The action was organized by the M20 Coalition and endorsed by more than 100 local groups that helped build for the march.
Contingents ranged from the Anti-War Marching Band to large assemblies of SDS and other student groups. Code Pink fielded a crew, as did CIRCA -- the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army -- ANSWER Chicago, a large Black Block mass, Iraq Vets Against the War, Vietnam Vets Against the War, Military Families Speak Out, the Gay Liberation Network, Cook County nurses, union postal workers and dozens of other groups from the greater Chicago area. In the mix? Plenty of parents pushing kids in strollers, seniors, and passersby who joined the march from the sidewalks.
