IMMIGRANT RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS TO CALL FOR DONATIONS TO FIRED WOMEN INSTEAD OF THE SALVATION ARMY

WHAT: Protest and Press Conference denouncing deplorable practices of the Salvation Army against Latina employees

WHEN: Thursday, October 12th @ 10 am

WHERE: 506 N. Des Plaines Ave, Chicago, IL – The Salvation Army Chicago Central Adult Rehabilitation Center/Family Thrift Stores, Corner of Grand and Des Plaines. Following press conference, workers will protest in front of the building and if The Salvation Army does not rehire workers they may take legal action on the basis of discriminatory employment practices.

WHO: Affected Latina Women. Workers from Chicago Workers’ Collaborative. Plaintiffs’ attorney, Chris Williams. March 10th Movement and other immigrant rights organizations

WHY: On Thursday, nine women—all immigrants from Mexico – will protest against the Salvation Army for discriminating against them on the basis of their national origin by unfairly firing them because they are Latino immigrant workers. The nine women were savagely treated by the managers while working for the Salvation Army.

The workers are represented by Chris Williams, an attorney for the Chicago Workers’ Collaborative. They are supported by many organizations including the March 10th Movement, which organized the massive mobilization of immigrants in downtown Chicago in the Spring.
