On Saturday, January 14, from 8:00am to 1:00pm, members of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) and residents of Albany Park will be picketing the Ideal Carwash, located on 3641 W. Montrose (between Monticello and Lawndale) to support a worker whose wages were stolen by this company. After a week of work, he was denied pay by the managers of this company, and we are demanding justice!
In October, Albany Park resident Neal Rysdahl, a member of the IWW (Industrial Workers of the World) was employed at Ideal Car Wash, washing cars for $5.00/hour. At the end of the woeek, he was expecting $227.50 pay for 45.5 hours of work. Instead, Willard "Ray" Murray, Jr. and Eduardo "Eddie" Amanero, the managers of Ideal, refused to pay him. As friends of Neal, and fellow workers in his labor union, we call on the people of Albany Park to boycott Idea Car Wash, and join our Saturday Picket. On Saturday, January 14, we will meet as a large group on the corner of Montrose and Hamlin at 7:45am, and walk as a group to Ideal Car Wash. Join us! If the bosses can get away with denying wages to one worker, they will take advantage of other workers in the same way! DON'T SUPPORT OR PATRONIZE UNETHICAL BUSINESSES! BOYCOTT IDEAL CAR WASH!

For the record, this picket has been called by the Grievance Committee of the Chicago General Membership Branch of the IWW, in support of Fellow Worker Rysdahl, after attempts to resolve the conflict without industrial direct action were unsuccessful.

this media upload system doesn't work very well. it says to "Use #file_1# as a placeholder in body" but when i do that all i get is "#file_1#" as text in my message, not the media file. I don't get it. anyhow i'll keep trying to get this flyer posted...

no, of course we don't have a contract with Ideal carwash. This direct action is being taken in Solidarity with our fellow worker in order to claim the wages he was promised. Contracts, beyond the social contract made when Neal was offered wages for his work, are irrelevant and immaterial to this matter.

Thanks Greg. I hope this message reaches a lot of people. This is all about justice for working people. This could happen to anyone. It might be your job and it might be mine as well.

Neal,

I support the efforts of the IWW against Ideal. Everytime a bussiness takes advantage of an individual we must rise up and demand justice. However, in this case I must question the effectiveness of a boycott. Few of us own cars, and those that do probably have never frequented this business. There must be a more effective way to counter this injustice.

You know, I work, too, as amazing as that may sound. And I will be there with bells on tomorrow morn, if you guys tell me WHY his pay got withheld. Just so that I know the situation I am getting into. Sound fair?

Its not really about weather or not we have cars - A loud and visable protest will drive people away from the car wash, and hopefully pressure the owner into paying Neal.

why doesn't the iww take issue with his below-minumum wage salary as well? is this job exempt from standard minimum wage laws because it is part of the hospitatliy industry and expected to rely on tipping?

The bottom line is that FW Neal agreed to work for these guys for $5.00/hr (why he agreed to work for less than min wage is irrelevant) and they refused to pay him. Why? Because they're cheap bastards who thought they could get away with it. They've done this sort of thing before and they'll do it again until somebody stands up and says no more.

Please contact as many people as you can, and ask them to tell others. Dave, who is the landlord of this property can be contacted at 773-728-0797. Let him know about the underhanded busiess practice that is taking place on his property.

We also need people to drive through the carwash as though they intended to have vehicles washed, but then change their minds because of the picket line and dirve away in disgust.This will effectively disrupt their business. We also will need people with cameras, noisemakers and anarchaist flags.

We will need to translate this message into other languages (Spanish, Polish, Bosinian, Serbian, etc.)

We need help translating some of this into Spanish for chants and /or picket signs. Feel free to translate into other languages as well.
