The percentage of American workers trapped in poverty rose 50 percent between 1979 and 2000. Today, one in four workers – more than 30 million Americans – are stuck in low-wage jobs that do not sustain a decent or secure existence. This documentary follows four low-paid laborers as they struggle to support their families. Shot over three years in the Northeast and California, Waging a Living offers a first-hand view of life lived on the outskirts of the American dream.

Says Director Roger Weisberg: "I wanted to bring viewers inside the daily grind of the nameless people we encounter every day who struggle to survive from paycheck to paycheck. … I hope that the audience comes away with a deeper appreciation and respect for the people who cook our food, bag our groceries, and take care of our children and elderly. My goal is get people to take a new look at the prevailing American assumption that hard work alone can overcome poverty." A must see for union activists.
