City Council Passes Resolution
for Continued Talks

Comcast and the City of Chicago have joined forces to address both the short-term and long-term funding problems at CAN TV. Comcast made a proposal for interim funding over a three-year period that has been accepted by CAN TV. At the December 1, 2004 meeting of the Chicago City Council, Alderman Stone substituted a resolution for the pending ordinance. The resolution, which was unanimously approved by the City Council, commends Comcast on its action and directs CAN TV and the franchised cable operators to work with the City to complete a plan to address CAN TV’s long term viability by December 1, 2006.

Progress has also been made in the RCN matter. CAN TV has reached a settlement with RCN and the terms of the settlement are expected to be carried out before the end of this year. Thanks to Comcast’s assistance and an anticipated settlement with RCN, CAN TV can reverse the cutbacks in service that began last year and return to operating levels that we originally expected to have at this point.

We want to express appreciation to Mayor Daley, Alderman Bernard Stone, and all of the Aldermen who have consistently given support to CAN TV. We extend thanks to Comcast for taking leadership in proposing an interim funding solution. And we acknowledge the tremendous efforts of the hundreds of Chicago residents and nonprofit representatives whose dedication and actions built a groundswell of support for a funding solution that assures CAN TV’s future viability.
