One of the discriminations referenced but not named by Craig Mousin in his excellent piece on military academies and Junior ROTC is against lesbians, gays, bi-sexuals and trans folk.

Naturally, both Daley and Alderman/Admiral Mary Ann Smith claim to back gays, but then betray us when a real test of their commitment arises. The statistics mentioned by Craig Mousin make clear that the military presence in Chicago's public schools--one of the largest in the nation--results in large numbers of persons joining the military machine-- an operaton that continues to discriminate against gays, and from which large numbers of gays are discharged every year.

Right up there with the specious claim of "We don't recruit," is the equally false assertion that "We don't discriminate."
