Asked? Like we've "asked" for peace over years and years of U.S. imperialism, to no avail?
Asked? Like we've "asked" Bush to end the war in Iraq and the war on terror for seven years or more?
Yeah, fuck that. You can keep asking people to listen all you want, and you can keep being complacent and comfortable and not getting reactions or results.
Now is the time to demand peace, equality, and an end to all oppression. Stop pulling this bullshit leftist guise over your right wing prejudice. If you're not in, you're next.
Blame the President and Congress for your political shortcomings. At any rate, the result of this last "action" was complete PR disaster for the anti-war movement. Yes, it has excited and enthralled the marginal core... but allienated the mainstream/majority.
And as far as I am concerned: I don't need to spill fake blood on perfect strangers or interrupt private events in order for my voice to be heard.
My nickname should tell you one or two things about my views.
If we continue to avoid taking responsibility for our own roles in the fucked up American machine, and handing that power over to the President and Congress, we continue to force ourselves into powerlessness and apathy. For once, open your mind! Be the change you wish to see in the world or stop wishing. Your bullshit is just as much a step in the wrong direction for you as it is for the so-called anti-war movement.
Coerce
From Latin coercēre, to control, restrain (co- + arcēre, to enclose, confine)
1. To force to act or think in a certain way by use of pressure, threats, or intimidation; compel.
2. To dominate, restrain, or control forcibly.
3. To bring about by force or threat.
Nobody at Holy Name was forced to do anything, therefore your arguement is invalid. They did, in fact, ask. It's not like they kidnapped anybody or dropped laser-guided munitions on a place of worship. That's stricly the US military's bag.
Actually, I'd argue that the American Heritage definition #1 applies in this case. The word coerce is a verb; the definition does not depend upon the success of the action -- it IS the action.
Wordnet says:
to cause to do through pressure or necessity, by physical, moral or intellectual means
dictionary.com says:
to dominate or control, esp. by exploiting fear, anxiety, etc.
The fact that they were booed out of the church doesn't mean they weren't trying to coerce the cardinal into doing the bidding of 6 "Catholic schoolgirls" with some leftover Halloween accoutrements.
What a hoot. By expropriating the argument of O'Riley, Coultier and other enraged rightwing pundits in order to take the moral highground here, while ignoring 4,000 US coffins and countless Iraqi deaths looming in the background -- you've already lost.
Talk all the shit you want. Fact is, you're trying as hard as you can to poke holes in this letter and the best you could do is call the 6 'thugs.' At least the debate here is better than on Milwaukee IMC, where the brightest thing that hecklers can do is throw out 'faggot,' 'pussy,' and 'cocksucker' 5 times a sentence.

DEMANDED. In a thuggish way. In a coercive way.
They should have ASKED.

Sorry, I'm dense. Explain it to me.

You're really grasping at semantic straws here.
