I applaud the activists and their supporters for this creative and non-violent act during Easter mass at Holy Name.
Having followed the comments here and at various conservative blogs throughout the day, I can tell you; my support has never been stronger.
The shock and horror expressed towards this 50 second long action, compared with the shock and horror of being responsible for having an entire country torn to shreds with hundreds of thousands killed just blows me away.
The weight on those poor parishioners, to have their mass interrupted for nearly one whole minute, with some even getting stage blood on their clothes. Hopefully their indomitable spirit will have the strength to make it through the long and arduous process of having their clothes dry cleaned. And oh the horror some of the children were forced to bear, almost a minute of stage blood, possibly thinking those people were hurt? Traumatic!
That’s pretty bad, but going into the fifth year of:
Long power outages every single day, sewer flowing in the streets, dead bodies turning up everywhere - all the time, millions of refugees sleeping in tents in the desert or tenements in Jordan and Syria, families split apart, children forced into slavery, occupation troops kicking down the door at 4am, slaughtering wounded combatants inside mosques, no job, no stability, no end in sight....
Outrage?
To me, the outrage is that most of us just carry on like none of this is happening. Sure, they’re our leaders and we’re responsible for what they do, sure we pay for all of the weapons and troops, sure we could stop it anytime we felt so motivated as to do so, but…(insert excuse here)
Simple battery for drops of stage blood? Within the realm of possibility. Minor damage vandalism for spattered stage blood? A stretch considering it washes right out but something again within the realm of possibility prosecutor. Felony damage to a religious institution? Crosses the line into “trumped up”.
