This is the letter that I sent to the Superintendent:
Dear Sir,
In a time in this country when high school students seem interested in nothing more than their social life, celebrity gossip, video games, and their own careers, it is inspiring to see an actual group of students stand up and try to make a statement about something as important as the war in Iraq.
You may have heard about this war. It has now lasted longer than WWII; it was launched based on a series of lies, and its perpetuation is an ongoing moral and political disaster. The majority of the American public, by the way, now shares this view.
These students who held firm in their peaceful protest should be awarded laurels of citizenship.
Instead you have chosen to treat them like common criminals.
Although you will pretend otherwise, we can safely assume that you are an individual who would have acted in precisely the same fashion—stifling dissent—had you been a school administrator in Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union. Public order always trumps principled dissent for men such as you.
These students and their families should stand proudly for their self-sacrifice and organized dissent; they are the real Americans.
It is you, sir, who is the disgrace.
aybe others can voice their opinions as well.
People should certainly write to support these kids and their families.
