Re: Pilsenites protest proposed Podmajersky parking plot

I have been walking by this place for the last 5 years and it has always looked like a dump, i never knew that it was a garden until i saw the people protesting and chanting "the garden is not for sale" my description of the garden being an empty lot wasteland, is not based on the pictures of the uprooted vegetation its based on the last 5 years i have been walking over to Berthas store on Canalport, cutting thru the alley behind Cooper and the 2 Podmajersky buildings on Halsted and Canalport,(1945 s and the one just south of that) I dont know what was going on back in the 90s, maybe back then it was a garden, but for the last 5 years it has looked like an empty lot. its hard to believe that anyone would consider this sale a loss, I know that the community tried to buy the land, and its a shame that they couldnt, but, I can imagine what would have happened when the community got their first tax bill, my estimated tax bill for the garden would be $12,000 a year, not to mention the $8000 monthly mortgage, I saw like 12 people protesting last week, If they can cover that cost, than its a shame they couldnt buy the garden, but if each one of them( the 12) can afford an extra $9000 a month, i would be more occupied buying a resort in Costa Rica not pilsen.
